Southwark is looking to recruit a Fire Safety Building Surveyor for its Repairs team in the Housing and Modernisation Division.
Your main task will be to design, manage, procure, and undertake works arising from Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs). You will be responsible for assessing tasks from FRAs and determining the best delivery methods within the asset management department for their completion. This includes ordering and overseeing works through existing term contracts, using frameworks, and procuring schemes via our commercial team. Additionally, you will provide cost analysis, expenditure forecasts, and assess financial risks to the Council. You will offer expert fire safety leadership, management, support, and advice to ensure fire safety issues are managed in line with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and other relevant legislation.
You will be responsible for:
1. Surveying and designing fire safety works, schemes, or work packages, and administering contracts for borough and area-wide projects.
2. Developing building specifications for various work streams, from repairs to large fire safety upgrade projects.
3. Evaluating contracts pre- and post-completion and preparing evaluation reports.
4. Managing repairs staff, consultants, designers, and clerks of works to ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and policies.
5. Identifying technical solutions for fire safety repairs and upgrades, supporting colleagues and contractors in delivery.
6. Liaising with professional bodies such as Building Control and the fire safety team.
About You:
You will hold a formal fire safety qualification, with extensive knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Building Regulations, and Fire Safety in Purpose Built Block of Flats guidance. You will have experience in fire safety works on complex residential properties, including diagnostic and quality control inspections, detailed scheduling, and managing work packages on site.
