Deputy Clinical Lead Perioperative Care
Band: 6 | Contract: Permanent | Hours: 37.5 per week (shifts over 4 days, including nights, weekends and bank holidays). | Salary: £40,559–£48,841 per annum (Yearly).

This role supports the Clinical Lead in delivering safe, compassionate, and effective perioperative care in line with CTM values. The Deputy Clinical Lead provides clinical and managerial leadership, ensuring high standards of post‑operative assessment, monitoring, and intervention. Key tasks include staff coordination, operational decision‑making, theatre flow management, and mentorship of staff and students. The role also contributes to audits, data collection, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
Main Duties of the Job
* Provide visible clinical and managerial leadership to ensure safe, effective care for all patients emerging from anaesthesia.
* Perform specialist assessments, monitor complex patients, recognise deterioration, and deliver advanced post‑operative interventions based on evidence‑based practice.
* Coordinate the recovery unit on a daily basis, including staff allocation, operational decision‑making, escalation of clinical concerns, and management of theatre flow.
* Deputise for the Clinical Lead, maintaining continuity of service, safe staffing, and effective planning during routine and emergency activity.
* Supervise, mentor, and support staff, students and new practitioners, fostering a positive learning environment.
* Ensure adherence to policies, LocSSIPs/NatSSIPs, infection‑prevention standards, and documentation requirements.
* Contribute to audits, data collection, equipment evaluation, and quality‑improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
* Communicate effectively with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team, managing sensitive information and challenging situations professionally.
Qualifications & Experience
* Significant Band 5 experience in perioperative or recovery practice.
* Experience coordinating recovery or theatre flow.
* Demonstrated leadership experience, including supervising or mentoring staff.
* Experience teaching, mentoring or supporting staff; post‑registration training or additional qualifications preferred.
* Evidence of involvement in audit, quality improvement or governance.
* Welsh language skills (Level 3 or above / B2) are desirable but not essential.
* UK professional registration appropriate to the role.
