Job overview
This 12‑month post starts in August 2026 and is open to all post‑Primary FRCA (or equivalent) anaesthetic trainees who wish to develop an interest in medical education.
The trainee’s rota will include dedicated time for staff training, education and medical simulation projects, while the remainder of the week will focus on clinical commitment and on‑call duties.
Learning and Development
* Support to complete PG Cert in Medical Education
* Project to enhance Primary FRCA
* Teaching with the opportunity to explore joint trust‑wide options and develop a new educational programme
* Project designed to integrate ACCS and FRCA trainees teaching
* Assisting in developing and delivering teaching for Anaesthetic Nurse Practitioners

Main duties of the job
* Pre‑, per‑ and post‑operative management of surgical patients
* Assist with patient care in the ICU and provide assistance with resuscitation calls
* Participate in all on‑call rotations across Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU (1:10 on‑call ratio)
* Communicate and liaise with all medical and service departments within the hospital and with other hospitals
* Teach medical staff, students, nurses and paramedical staff in speciality and special interest areas
Person specification
Experience / Qualifications
* Completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant programme
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* Completion of Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)

* Understanding of clinical risk management
* Range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams
* Understanding of NHS, clinical governance and resource constraints
* Evidence of managerial skills; achievements / course attended
Teaching skills
* Evidence of interest and commitment to teaching
* Recognised teaching qualification
