Primary Objective
The Club Journalist is responsible for producing engaging, accurate, and timely written content across all Club platforms.
The role plays a key part in telling the story of the Club, enhancing supporter engagement, and supporting the Club’s brand, commercial objectives, and media obligations within Scottish football.
Based between Easter Road Stadium and the Club’s training facility in Tranent, the Club Journalist will be heavily involved in editorial and communication aspects while assisting with the official website, social media channels, and any additional offline platforms. There will also be additional duties dealing with our Men’s first team, Women’s first team and Academy players and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation
Write press releases, editorial pieces and news stories.
Produce player interviews, manager quotes, and feature articles.
Create compelling digital content for the club website and official publications.
Support storytelling around Club history, community initiatives, and commercial partners.
Present to camera and self-shooting short-form video content.
Interview key stakeholders where required including players, staff and Senior Management.
Matchday Duties
Attend all Men’s first-team home and away fixtures and, where applicable, Women’s first team and Academy fixtures.
Liaise with Football staff for team news and official quotes.
Media & Communications
Work closely with Content team to ensure consistency of messaging.
Assist with press conferences, media days and press relations.
Support crisis communications when required.
Managing external media requests, accreditations and day-to-day media enquiries.
Support across all online platforms including the official website and social media.
Digital & Social Collaboration
Collaborate with the content team to adapt written content for online platforms
Write copy optimised for SEO and supporter engagement
Contribute to content planning aligned with fixtures and campaigns
Skills & Experience
Essential
Proven experience in sports journalism, media, or communications
Exceptional written English with strong editing and proofreading skills
Strong knowledge of Scottish football and the media landscape
Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
Strong interviewing skills
Excellent communication skills.
Journalism or media-related qualification
Ability to travel.
Desirable
Experience working within a professional football club or sports organisation
Understanding of digital analytics and audience engagement
Familiarity with CMS platforms and basic photo/video workflows
