Wellington School is seeking to appoint an inspirational and dynamic Head of Mathematics to lead our highly successful department. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious teacher with the ability to teach Mathematics across the 11‑18 age range, including A Level and Further Mathematics. The successful applicant will join a happy, experienced and successful department, working closely with colleagues to support pupils’ learning across the whole school.
Responsibilities
* Shape the strategic direction of the Mathematics department, ensuring schemes of learning remain current, engaging and effective.
* Lead analysis of student performance data to implement targeted intervention strategies that drive progress and raise attainment.
* Develop and lead a rich programme of academic enrichment beyond the classroom, including clubs, trips, national competitions and other opportunities that foster a love of Mathematics.
* Provide strong pastoral care and demonstrate a genuine commitment to the wellbeing and safeguarding of all students.
* Collaborate with the department and wider school community, contributing to co-curricular programmes and weekend duties as required.
Qualifications
• Experienced and ambitious teacher, able to teach Mathematics across the 11‑18 age range, including A Level and Further Mathematics.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Skilled in leading a large academic department with the ability to inspire and support colleagues.
• Strong commitment to delivering outstanding academic outcomes.
Department Overview
The Mathematics Department consists of eight dedicated teachers and is well‑resourced with seven specialist teaching rooms and a central staff workroom. Classrooms are equipped with Clevertouch interactive whiteboards and staff have access to high‑quality teaching resources such as Dr Frost Maths, Integral and Go Teach Maths.
Curriculum & Results
Years 7‑9 follow an objective‑based scheme of work based on the Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A specification. Years 10‑11 follow the Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A course, with all pupils entered for the Higher Tier examination at the end of Year 11. A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics (Edexcel) are highly popular, with many students participating in UKMT Maths Challenges and other enrichment opportunities.
Results Overview
* 62% of A Level Mathematics students achieved grades A*‑B.
* 50% of Further Mathematics students achieved grades A*‑A.
* 36% of IGCSE students achieved top grades 9‑7.
* 95% of students secured a standard pass (grades 9‑4).
