We are looking for an enthusiastic motivated nurse with an interest in Parkinson’s disease, to join the Elderly Parkinson's team at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The position is 22.5 hours, covering both inpatient and outpatient settings, serving the population of York and its surrounding areas.
This is a Band 6 position, and the successful candidate would be expected to clinical competencies set out in the Parkinson's Nurse Competency Framework within their first year of employment.
Main duties of the job
1. To work as an autonomous practitioner to deliver an expert nursing service within this highly specialist area of Parkinson's Disease.
2. Ensuring that patients with Parkinson's conditions receive the highest standard of care, with an emphasis on providing expert advice and support to patients and carers, including psychological support.
3. To manage a caseload of patients/clients with Parkinson's Disease. Providing professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the specialty
4. To lead the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice, in line with current research and guidelines.
5. Providing nursing and medical educational training, support, and care within the Trust and externally.
6. Ensure that all patients are treated with compassion, dignity, and respect.
7. Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with the Trusts and NMC requirements.
8. As a key member of a multi professional team, ensure appropriate referral and discussion with other members of the team to optimise patient care.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
17. Registered Nurse (Level 1)
18. Diploma level education or equivalent
19. Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
20. Post registration qualification in specialty
21. Working towards degree or equivalent
22. Qualification in Elderly Medicine
23. Non-medical prescriber - as determined by needs of the service
Experience and Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
24. Experience at Band 5 or equivalent including within a relevant speciality.
25. Audit & Standard setting.
26. Demonstrate existing interest in Parkinson’s.
27. Current issues in healthcare.
28. Understanding of the local and national nursing agenda.
29. Understanding of relevant National Service Frameworks/ national guidance.
30. Understanding of research-based practice.
