Job Purpose / Overview
Reporting directly to the EC&I (Electrical, Control & Instrumentation) Lead Technician, the C&I Technician is responsible for the maintenance and engineering of C&I assets throughout the asset lifecycle, managing compliance and implementing best practice to deliver continuous improvement in plant reliability, availability and efficiency whilst minimising cost. The post holder will be expected to work to a high level of safety and quality adherence and be the subject matter expert in their nominated plant/equipment areas of responsibility.
The post holder will be working as part of a small team, within which it is expected that the individual willingly supports other team members when necessary, including covering their areas during holiday leave. A proactive approach is essential in order to support maximum availability of the power station.

Operating Environment
West Burton B CCGT began commercial operation in 2013. The EC&I team currently consists of nine employees supported by contract staff. The team is comprised of Engineers and Technicians. They are responsible for delivery of both short term day to day maintenance, longer term strategic overhaul activities (Outage) and delivery of EC&I projects.
Framework & Boundaries
The role requires the holder to work within the EC&I Maintenance and Engineering Team and expand their skills and knowledge to meet the growing needs of the business. The role requires self-motivation, a proactive approach and a positive contribution to the successful operation of the plant. The post holder will take decisions within their capabilities and area of responsibility.
Principal Accountabilities
* Direct Reports: None
* Setting to work themselves, other EC&I Team members and contractors in accordance with CCGT expectations
* Plan and carry out work to remedy defects within their assigned plant area
* Continual review and effective prioritisation of EC&I work bank within nominated plant areas
* Support EC&I team colleagues to ensure all work is delivered in a safe and timely manner
* Ensure progress against schedule is fed back in-day to site Scheduler, EC&I Lead Technician and the Operations Department as appropriate
* Support fellow Engineers/Technicians in their plant areas when additional resource may be required
* Support EC&I Team through the effective management of assigned EC&I maintenance contracts
* Support EC&I Team through the effective management of low value/low risk Management of Change requests
* Support WBB Outage Management Process through planning work in your plant area in coordination with the EC&I Lead Technician
* Substitute for the EC&I Lead Technician during periods of absence at operational focus and planning meetings.
* Provide technical advice to meeting stakeholders on EC&I issues arising and manage all actions arising
* Perform the role of Contract User and be responsible for raising purchase requisitions against agreed budgets
* Provide support on low value contractor projects as requested by the EC&I Manager.

Knowledge & Skills
Essential
* Technical competence in C&I systems and technology such as:
* Pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical actuation.
* Temperature measurement, thermocouples, RTD's.
* Pressure, Level and Flow Transmitters.
* Shaft Line sensors, vibration and proximity probes.
* Control valve positioners.
* Steam and water quality analysers (dissolved oxygen, pH, chlorine, conductivity, silica, sodium).
* Gas quality analysers (hydrogen, methane).
* Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) (emissions to air and water).
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of legal and corporate requirements of managing safely
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of appropriate health, safety and environmental legislation
* Self-motivated with a proven record of driving continuous improvement
* Experience using organisational skills to meet deadlines
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills
* Experience as a team player, working within a team
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of maintenance / asset management strategies

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
* NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
* Experience in an industrial engineering environment
Desirable
* Previous experience of EC&I systems typically found in a conventional CCGT power plant
* ONC (or equivalent academic qualification) in an EC&I relevant discipline
* Experience in managing low risk contracts for maintenance activities and management of maintenance contracts
* IOSH Managing Safely Certificate
