Summary
The Staff Nurse, RN or LPN, will possess knowledge of substance abuse and mental health illnesses and be capable of providing treatment consistent with professional standards. The position requires physical ability to perform emergency treatments such as CPR and assist with routine care. The RN or LPN will conduct medical assessments, intake screenings, and implement physician’s standing orders.
Essential Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities
* Perform pre-admission screenings (telephone and on-site) for patients requesting admission.
* Maintain patient charts, including nurse’s notes, medication sheets, physician orders, assessments, and other documentation clearly and comprehensively.
* Perform physical assessments on admitted patients according to standards.
* Monitor drug and alcohol withdrawal to prevent complications and administer medications as per physician orders.
* Evaluate and document medical problems, reporting them promptly to the Medical Director or on-call physician.
* Follow Universal Precautions for Infection Control and proper sharps disposal procedures.
* Keep the nurse’s station neat, hazard-free, and compliant with health and safety standards.
* Participate in case reviews and in-service training.
* Stay informed of all relevant Gosnold procedures.
* Adhere to the Professional Staff Code of Ethics.
* Conduct patient education on addiction, health maintenance, and recovery topics.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Experience, and Skills Required
* Certificate, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
* Preferred: One year of nursing experience.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Ability to implement physician’s standing orders.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
* Current licensure as an RN or LPN in Massachusetts.
* Current CPR certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire.
