Elsa will soon be moving to her new family home in the local Stonehouse area, it is a very exciting time, and she needs a full team to provide 1:1 support, which includes waking nights. Elsa has Cerebral Palsy, which affects all areas of her development. She is a full-time wheelchair user, requires full support with manual handling, has a PEG in situ, experiences dystonic episodes, requires oral suctioning, and has epilepsy (controlled via medication). Elsa uses sounds, facial expressions and body language to communicate; she is very good at letting others know if she is happy (or not!). She attends school full-time, has a full MDT in place through school, and a Case Manager overseeing all aspects of his care. Elsa’s Mum is extremely supportive; and is dedicated to bringing the very best health care professionals onto Elsa’s care team. Overview of role: Each shift starts at 8.00pm with a handover from Mum or the day SEN Support Worker. Elsa is typically already in bed by 8.00pm, and the Waking Night Carer will continue the bedtime routine. Elsa’s nights can be unpredictable, at times she will sleep through, others she might want to start the day at 3.00am. The Waking Night Carer will follow an established routine and promote good sleep hygiene. Throughout the night Elsa requires close monitoring via video; she may require suctioning at different intervals (oral) to maintain a patent airway, and PEG feed flush etc. This is an active night, through close monitoring, prepping for the following day, completing paperwork and tending to Elsa as and when required, therefore it is essential that you come to this role with Waking Night care experience.
