Divisional Information Manager, Band 7 - Business Intelligence

During the past couple of years, the BI team has aided the trust in making critical decisions while supporting patient flow and quality of care. This has included using advanced forecasting models to predict COVID admissions, creating real‑time operational dashboards, and gaining access to new data flows. The Gloucestershire Hospitals BI Team has gained national recognition, winning the Health Tech Newspaper Award for Best Use of Data 2020 and the AphAs Analytical Team of the Year.

Main duties of the job

The position is a Divisional Information Manager in the Women’s & Children’s Team. The team provides accurate, concise, and clear information and analytics to the division to support its strategic objectives.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical capabilities and the ability to effectively communicate and present complex information to a range of stakeholders. The post holder will manage 3–4 analysts within the Business Intelligence team, supporting their development and managing priorities and workload. The role requires working under pressure and managing conflicting priorities for the team.

Job responsibilities

Divisional Managers are responsible for developing, preparing, and maintaining high‑quality, timely information and analytical reports to support performance management, clinical and operational processes. This involves ensuring a high level of analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and presentation of information to advise stakeholders of potential problem areas and recommend solutions.

The role requires working closely with clinicians and senior managers to understand requirements, develop reporting tools, and provide intelligence that enables better decision‑making. The post holder must be engaging, forward‑thinking, and foster positive working relationships to improve patient care.

Leadership responsibilities include guiding the BI team, ensuring motivation, effective teamwork, and achievement of personal and team objectives. This includes line‑management HR functions, recruitment, and annual staff appraisal.

The incumbent must understand and interpret complex concepts, respond to tight deadlines, analyze, investigate, and resolve complex information issues.

Divisional Information Managers should be organised, show excellent leadership and technical skills, and be passionate about making a real difference to hospital operations.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent educational level
* GCSE Maths and English specified
* Experience managing a team


Knowledge / Skills

* Excellent SQL skills – data management, interrogation & analysis
* Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and BI visualising tools (Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
* In‑depth knowledge of NHS Data Dictionary, datasets, data standards and data modelling concepts
* Analytical mindset and ability to explain trends and themes in data
* Good understanding of patient pathways
* Understanding of PbR/Non‑PbR and its relationship to contracting and performance


Experience

* Substantial experience in NHS Information Management, including analytics
* Demonstrated experience in NHS information management
* Expertise in SQL Server, SSRS, Excel and front‑end visualisation
* Expert level skills in information analysis, preparing high‑quality reports, turning data into information
* Experience delivering work to tight deadlines and juggling complex demands
