Position Summary
The Director, Corporate Communications leads the development and execution of corporate, internal, external, IPT, and EPT communication strategies that measurably advance company objectives and strengthen reputation. This role oversees messaging, media relations, executive and board materials, digital and internal channels, and key company events, partnering cross‑functionally to deliver clear, consistent, and effective communications across the organization and the gene therapy landscape. The position is based in Edinburgh, UK and reports to the VP, Corporate Communications.
Job Responsibilities
* Lead the development, alignment, execution, and measurement of corporate, internal, external, Integrated Project Team (IPT), and Early Project Team (EPT) communication strategies and plans, delivering measurable outcomes that support company objectives.
* Provide communications workstream leadership by shaping content, managing internal and/or agency support teams, and driving cross‑functional alignment.
* Lead the development and distribution of key internal and external communication materials, including press releases, executive content, employee updates, stakeholder‑focused articles, and newsletters.
* Represent the Communications function on IPTs and EPTs, providing leadership for related internal and external communication initiatives.
* Shape corporate media strategy and content, ensuring messages align with company objectives and are accurate, appropriate, and effective within the gene therapy landscape.
* Build and manage media relationships, respond to inquiries, and secure positive coverage that advances the company’s reputation.
* Support crisis communications and issues management planning and execution by anticipating potential issues and preparing response protocols, plans, and materials in advance.
* Monitor and share media coverage, market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments in gene therapy with internal stakeholders and use these to inform communication strategies and actions.
* Oversee internal, social, and digital communication platforms to ensure timely updates, consistent messaging, and strong visual continuity.
* Partner with cross‑functional teams, including People & Culture, Research & Discovery, Therapeutics, Tech Ops, IT, and Facilities, to support internal and external communication initiatives.
* Lead and coordinate key company‑wide and external events, including internal town halls and media engagements, with responsibility for messaging development, speaker preparation, and results reporting.
* Support the development of materials for Board meetings and presentations, ensuring adherence to style and design guidelines.
* Oversee the collection of data and the preparation and distribution of Corporate Communications reports, results summaries, and related metrics.
Minimum Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 10+ years’ industry or industry‑related communications experience, including related communications agency experience.
* Proven ability to partner with senior medical, commercial, or other business leaders to shape communication around corporate, product, and other milestones.
* Experience navigating pharmaceutical industry review and approval processes, including working with legal, compliance, and other reviewers to deliver high‑impact, accurate, and compliant materials.
* Demonstrated level of professional judgment, diplomacy, and ability to maintain composure under time and other pressures.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills
* Master’s degree in a related field.
* Prior experience setting the direction for global, regional, and country communications programs supporting corporate positioning and strategy, brand positioning and strategy, and product launch readiness.
* Experience leading communications teams and processes.
* Proven ability to achieve cross‑functional alignment to ensure consistent, credible, and insight‑driven narratives.
* Willingness to work in a continuous learning environment and to embrace and explore technologies and ways of working that can advance the Communications function.
