The role will require the use of your knowledge, judgement and initiative whilst being supported by the wider team. The role of Principal Bridge Engineer will manage the programme of Principal Inspections, Scour Assessments and Structural Reviews. The successful candidate will respond to Highway Structures queries and assist in the management and delivery of Term Maintenance Highway Structures works. Typical Duties include: Carrying out designs, inspections, analyse engineering problems, apply technical expertise and engineering judgment and produce innovative solutions through the use of complex interactive computer systems (e.g. AutoCAD). Manage wide ranging works and activities on the public highway, including liaising with and supervising contractors during the maintenance of highway structures as part of the highway network. Deal with correspondence and telephone enquiries and consult with statutory undertakers, District and Parish councils, other Services and units of the Service. Assist the Team Leader for Highway Structures in monitoring and maximising budgets to ensure the cost effective efficient and economical management of the work programme. To plan and manage scheme delivery and proactively monitor the overall progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective procedures. Contribute to the continued development of the specific Service area through the direct management and training of staff including the identification, planning and allocation of tasks/duties together with assisting in the personal development of these staff.
