Your new role
AsManagement Accountant, you will play a key role supporting the FinancialController and the wider business. The position has responsibility for thepreparation of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balancesheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and supporting commentary. You willmanage weekly cash flow forecasting, oversee working capital performance acrossreceivables and payables, and ensure day‑to‑day cash requirements are effectively controlled.
Inaddition, you will lead the budgeting and rolling forecast processes, workingclosely with key stakeholders across the business to gather and interpretfinancial information. The role also includes responsibility for quarterly VATreturns, oversight and approval of payroll prepared by a third‑partyprovider, and leadership of the month‑end close process. You will support external auditsand assist with the preparation of draft statutory accounts, ensuringcompliance with UK GAAP, internal controls, and group accounting policies.
Beyond core reporting,the role provides meaningful commercial exposure. You will support weekly KPIreporting, analyse business unit performance, and contribute financial andcommercial insight to tender submissions, including financial modelling, cost assumptions,and working capital considerations. You will regularly review the cost base toensure appropriate labour and overhead recovery rates and play an active rolein identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and operationalefficiency. The position also includes supporting system and ERP enhancementsand providing guidance and support to an Assistant Accountant as part of thewider finance team.
What you'll need to succeed
Tosucceed in this role, you will have prior experience in a management accountingor financial analysis position within a similar commercial or project‑basedenvironment. You will be professionally qualified, or studying towardsqualification, with CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or an equivalent accountancyqualification.
You willbring strong technical accounting skills, including experience producingmanagement accounts, cash flow forecasts, budgets, and VAT returns, along withconfidence working with Excel and financial or ERP systems. Experience usingPower BI is beneficial, and exposure to EFACS would be advantageous, althoughnot essential. Just as important is your ability to communicate financialinformation clearly to non‑finance stakeholders, manage multiple priorities totight deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively. A proactivemindset focused on continuous improvement, strong financial governance, andcommercial awareness will be critical to your success.
