We are seeking passionate Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers with experience in Transmission and Distribution (T&D) to join our teams across our North, Midlands and Scotland Region operating from 8 regional offices, to work on a variety of interesting and challenging projects, both nationally and locally. You will be joining a growing team of like-minded people that have a passion for innovation and delivering cutting edge solutions.
Here’s what you’ll do:
As an Assistant/Project Manager, you will be expected to support the project team to successfully manage and deliver capital investment projects which will include Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems. This role involves providing client-side project management support during all stages of the project delivery lifecycle from option studies, option development, construction tender support through to NEC contract administration.
1. Support the successful delivery of Project Management commissions.
2. Ensure commissions are managed and completed efficiently, on time and to the client’s satisfaction.
3. Accountable for delivery of projects in a safe & environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality.
4. Manage multi-disciplinary teams including commercial, programme controls, engineering, and others
5. to deliver the client requirements.
6. Support the project sponsor in preparing and maintaining definitions of the project requirements.
7. Identify and monitor project risks (threats and opportunities), plan and implement mitigations to
8. them, and respond to other issues that affect the project.
9. Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
10. Managing project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project lifecycle which will inform
11. governance decisions of projects by providing evaluations of progress, performance, risk, contingency, and continuing relevance.
12. Establish, and implement where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects and update configuration documents as required.
13. Attend project meetings, taking responsibility for minuting and leading discussions towards resolutions.
14. Accountable for the production and maintenance of project documentation, including timelines, resource allocation, project execution strategies and reports.
15. Provide support to SPM on contract management services on NEC4 contracts, administering through a contract management system.
16. Ensure compliance with the Construction Design Management Regulations Act of 2015.
17. Advise the client on procurement strategies and review tender documentation.
18. Assist in the successful delivery of multi-disciplinary Transmission, Distribution and Power Systems projects.
19. Actively manage subcontractors and resources remote from the core project team
20. Develop strong relationships with clients and members of the cross-functional team
21. Support business development opportunities with existing and new clients
Qualifications
Here’s what we’re looking for:
22. Experience of working within a client organisation, either directly or through a co-location/secondment arrangement.
23. Experience of NEC suite of contracts, particularly the Professional Services Contract (PSC) and Engineering and Construction Contract (ECC)
24. Experience of working as part of integrated, multi-organisation, collaborative teams
25. Infrastructure and project management experience, delivering projects
26. Excellent communication and organisational skills
27. Highly motivated and with excellent industry network
28. Relationship building skills –ability to build strong relationships with clients, teams, and stakeholders as well as an ability to build and maintain networks of business contacts.
29. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
30. A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, outgoing, polite, patient, diplomatic, personable, respectful, and flexible
31. Experience of working with NGET business processes, supplier requirements, national development process 500.
32. Experience of working on projects in Substations, Over Head Lines, and Cables 33kV – 400kV with DNO or TO.
33. Understanding of the UK Transmission and Distribution System along with associated plan and equipment.
34. Good understanding of CDM regulations.
35. Project Management Proficiency: Familiarity with project management principles and methodologies, including planning, scheduling, communication, teamwork, resource management, and risk management.
36. Professional Development: Engagement in continuous professional development, including pursuing qualifications such as those offered by the Association for Project Management (APM) and other recognised bodies.
37. Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to effectively communicate and engage with various stakeholders, including internal teams, contractors, and the public, to ensure project alignment and address concerns.
38. Technical Knowledge: Understanding of technical aspects related to electricity transmission and distribution, including infrastructure development and operational requirements.
39. Safety and Compliance: Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards, ensuring that all project activities comply with relevant regulations and best practices.
40. Financial Acumen: Skills in budget management and financial oversight to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
41. Leadership and Team Development: Capability to lead project teams, fostering a collaborative environment and supporting team members' professional growth.
42. Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and solve complex problems that may arise during project execution.
43. Strategic Thinking: Understanding of the broader strategic goals of National Grid and how individual projects contribute to these objectives
44. Minimum of two years’ project management experience
45. A project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or APM
46. A relevant degree such as in engineering, environmental science, construction, or relevant subject
47. Strong history in both contract (NEC3 and 4) and project management.
48. A member of a related professional body, preferably chartered
