Working for Mott MacDonald Bentley, you will work on major water and wastewater schemes throughout all phases of the project from feasibility through to construction, primarily in the UK water market.
Environmental Specialist
As an Environmental Specialist, you will be part of our environment team co‑located across the UK, supporting a regional team comprised of both design and operation staff. Your role will involve identifying environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, developing mitigation measures, coordinating specialist inputs (e.g., heritage, archaeology, ecology, geomorphology), and ensuring all environmental tasks are completed on time and to required standards.
Responsibilities
* Identify specific environmental risks throughout the project lifecycle, from solution definition to completion.
* Support project teams to develop environmental risk mitigation measures, considering cost, time, compliance, safety and social impacts.
* Plan and coordinate project environmental specialist inputs, prioritising risks and ensuring tasks are completed at the correct time.
* Produce specific environmental deliverables at appropriate project milestones, such as EIA screening assessments, material management plans and environmental management plans.
* Prepare applications for environmental permits and consents.
* Lead liaison with environmental regulators and positively engage with clients on environmental and consenting matters.
* Contribute to environmental improvement projects at both local and regional levels.
* Assist in the production and delivery of training.
Qualifications
* Chartered with a relevant professional body or actively working towards chartership.
* Understanding of environmental disciplines and project risks in ecology, archaeology, drainage, geotechnical, contaminated land, landscape and noise.
* Knowledge of the planning process (preferably the water sector) and experience with surveys, permits and consents for relevant construction activities.
* High level of planning, organisation and communication skills to coordinate the management of environmental aspects.
* Experience advising and promoting project sustainability initiatives, including an understanding of biodiversity net gain.
* Strong communication skills with team members and stakeholders, a methodical approach to problem‑solving and a proactive, pragmatic attitude.
* Ability to deliver results within short timeframes, prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
