Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pressure Ulcer Improvement Nurse based at University Hospital Crosshouse. This post is offered on a permanent basis.


Hours

29.6 hours per week. From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full‑time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part‑time staff) without loss of earnings.


What You Will Do

* Be accountable for leading, developing, implementing and evaluating an improvement plan for reduction of PU incidence within NHSAA.
* Provide monthly incidence data for senior nurse managers and senior charge nurses, including grades of PU’s per ward/department.
* Monitor PU incidence and provide support to areas where pressure ulcer incidence is high.
* Lead, plan and develop strategies to support senior charge nurses in reduction of PU incidence within their areas using quality improvement methodology.
* Provide high levels of advanced knowledge, advice and education in the area of PU management and prevention.
* Undertake and maintain advanced tissue viability competencies.
* Report to and provide specialist input/advice to appropriate groups and committees.
* Work in partnership with the QI team to effectively manage change in order to implement organisational development around PU prevention and management and to achieve locally agreed strategies, objectives and improvement targets.


Knowledge, Training and/or Experience Required for This Post

* First level nurse with current NMC registration.
* Educated to degree level with additional Masters level qualification or equivalent postgraduate experience in a relevant specialist field.
* Post graduate training and/or experience of continuing professional development within the specialist area of tissue viability/PU prevention.
* Specialist knowledge in a wider sphere of conditions associated with increased risk of pressure ulcer management and prevention.
* Evidence of teaching, QI education, coaching and mentoring skills.
* Knowledge of practical application of research and audit methods and clinical audit skills.
* Undertaken fundamental entry level Improvement Qualification (SIFs, AAIFs, ISF).
* Experience coordinating a QI project and contributing to its development and completion.
* Ability to network at all levels and across organisational boundaries.
* Previous leadership experience and the ability to communicate well with peers and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Computer literate (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Internet and e‑mail).
