Job Purpose To lead, manage, and continuously improve Health and Safety across the business, ensuring compliance with legislation and industry standards while fostering a culture of safety at all levels. The role is critical in protecting employees, contractors, and visitors by proactively identifying risks, implementing robust systems, and driving best practices. As a key part of the leadership team, this position will also support the company’s commitment to food safety, operational excellence, and sustainability, ensuring Health and Safety is fully embedded in day-to-day operations and long-term strategic goals. Key Responsibilities * Act as the lead for Health and Safety on site, providing expert support to the business. * Champion a culture of health and safety awareness at all levels of the organisation. * Conduct comprehensive risk assessments covering general activities, machinery use, and hazardous substances. * Develop, review, and implement safe systems of work and health and safety procedures and lead accident and near-miss investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are taken. * Regularly review, update, and maintain the site’s Health and Safety policy in line with current legislation. * Manage the provision and distribution of PPE across the site. * Establish and lead worker Health and Safety forums. * Carry out regular site audits, implementing actions based on findings. * Provide health and safety guidance for business projects and initiatives and support the business in working towards ISO Health and Safety accreditation. * Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation. * Deliver training sessions, inductions, and briefings to staff at all levels. * Oversee the occupational health programme. * Report and present weekly KPIs during daily site meetings. * Coordinate monthly safety representative meetings and ensure accurate minutes are recorded. Skills & Experience * NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety (or equivalent) is essential. * IOSH Certification (or above) desirable, with commitment to ongoing CPD. * Proven track record in a hands-on Health and Safety role. * Previous experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, or a similar fast-paced environment desirable and knowledge of food safety and hygiene procedures is an advantage. * Highly organised, proactive, and driven to develop the Health and Safety function further. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels. * Solid understanding of current health and safety legislation and business compliance requirements.
