Band 7 Delivery Suite Ward Manager
As the Band 7 Delivery Suite Ward Manager, you will have ongoing responsibility for managing the Delivery Suite. This includes assessing care needs, developing, implementing, and evaluating care programmes, and maintaining high standards. You will lead innovative, evidence-based midwifery practice, providing professional leadership and supporting a passionate clinical team. The clinical focus is on intrapartum care, with flexibility to suit your skill set.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage the Delivery Suite, ensuring exceptional patient care
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate care programmes
3. Set and uphold high standards of midwifery practice
4. Provide professional leadership and support to the clinical team
5. Oversee staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
6. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals for comprehensive care
7. Create a positive learning environment for students and new staff
8. Support the Director of Midwifery/Clinical Midwifery Matron in achieving strategic goals
9. Act as intrapartum team lead for the co-located MLU and Delivery Suite
About Our Organisation
Located in Oxfordshire, our maternity services include four standalone Midwifery Led Birth Units at Banbury, Chipping Norton, Wantage, and Wallingford, along with home births and an integrated birth unit. The John Radcliffe Hospital offers a large Delivery Suite with birthing pools, theatres, and specialist teams. We support staff with a dedicated Maternity Psychologist, Professional Midwifery Advocates, and a Practice Development Team, fostering a supportive environment focused on quality care and staff wellbeing.
Minimum Requirements
* Registered Midwife with NMC
* Midwifery or Nursing degree or equivalent experience
* Evidence of ongoing education and development
* Significant intrapartum care experience
Desirable Criteria
* At least 3 years' midwifery experience
* Management or leadership qualification
* Recent intrapartum experience
* Ability to manage complex caseloads
* Advocacy skills for women, families, and colleagues
* Audit and data analysis skills
* IT skills including report writing
* Knowledge of staffing, roster software, and NHS drivers for change
* Leadership and motivational skills
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Knowledge of clinical governance and UK midwifery issues
