Priory Close Vets is an independent small animal practice in Taunton in the West Country, with branch clinics in North Petherton and Bishops Lydeard. We have been caring for the local community for over 35 years providing traditional values with modern facilities and techniques.
We really value our team and we want you to enjoy your day without the pressurised environment so many vets find themselves in currently. If you’re wondering what makes us special then the answer is simple - it’s our team. We are such a close-knit, relaxed, and friendly team who all get on and have fun no matter what the day brings. Some of the team have been with us for as many as 30 years so we must be doing something right.
I worked at Priory Close Vets for 20 years as a part-time veterinary surgeon. It is a small independent practice with a great team of friendly supportive staff, most of whom have worked there for more than 15 years. They provide an excellent service to their clients and their animals, and I very much enjoyed working with Ian and his colleagues. Nicola Newman MRCVS
I worked for Priory Close Vets for nearly 5 years, I only left as I was moving out of the area. I very much enjoyed my time there and learned an awful lot. They are a very friendly private practice and very hard working. It's very much a team practice where everyone helps out where they can. Erica Creedy, Receptionist
I have worked at this small rural practice for many years. The team are supportive and humorous. The clientele love us but the animals are king. If you love being a vet work here! Charlie Knight MRCVS
Ian graduated from Liège University in Belgium in 1997 and has worked in France, Belgium, and the south of England in both mixed and small animal practices before joining Priory Close Vets, taking ownership of the practice in 2008. Ian is happy to mentor less experienced vets so if you need to chat through a difficult case or there’s a surgery you’re not confident with, we can arrange time for you to scrub in with Ian and learn.
We are an RCVS-approved nurse training practice and we have an amazing nursing team of 2 RVNS, 2 qualified nurses, and 1 SVN, led by our Head Nurse Gwen who qualified from Bristol University in 2006. Gwen has been with us since 2010 and has achieved her PgC in Veterinary Nursing Rehabilitation and she particularly enjoys training the next generation of nurses.
We have all the usual kit including digital x-ray, ultrasound with Doppler, and in-house laboratory.
We are ideally looking for a vet with some experience to join our team. We are very flexible with the rota so whether you’re looking for 4 days, 4.5 days or you would prefer part-time hours, we’re happy to chat about how we can design a rota that works for you.
Our days are scheduled to include a mixture of consults and operating so there is plenty of time to follow your interests and develop your skills with the support of our experienced team. We fully support career development so if you’re looking to take on a certificate we are happy to invest in training and equipment. If you’re looking to the future, then we’re also happy to chat about the very real prospects of partnership that we can offer.
We have a dedicated out-of-hours provider who covers the nights from 7pm to 8am and the bank holidays and we share the daytime weekend OOHs with another local practice. Our weekend rota is just 1:4 which includes Saturday morning consults until 1pm followed by being on call for emergencies until 7pm on Saturday and between 8am to 7pm on Sunday. For less experienced vets, backup is always available whether you need advice or an extra pair of hands.
We’re a sociable team who enjoy getting together over a meal and a bottle of wine or a night of bowling. We also like to make the most of all that the beautiful surrounding countryside has to offer including the Quantock Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and Exmoor National Park where you can spot wild ponies and red deer. The M5 provides easy access to the cities of Exeter and Bristol, and Bristol international airport is less than an hour away.
We are offering:
* A salary of £40,000 to £60,000
* Five weeks holiday, plus bank holidays
* Accommodation available
* Certificates supported and funded
* Real opportunity for practice partnership
* Professional fees for RCVS and Veterinary Defence Society paid
