Offer description

Fixed term for 2 years

37 hours per week (part-time hours will be considered)

We have an exciting opportunity for Research Technicians (up to five posts, full-time equivalent; part-time applications will be considered) to join the University of Huddersfield, as we establish a new interdisciplinary research centre, the Centre for Equity in Mental Health, funded through a large award from the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

The new centre will transform the Mental Health research landscape in Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield (CKW), creating a vibrant, sustainable research community by growing new research talent, strengthening relationships with research-intensive organisations and making CKW more attractive to established researchers, businesses and funders. It will deliver ‘step change’ in Mental Health outcomes, particularly for under-served and vulnerable populations in CKW, through a large and varied programme of high-quality research with local, national and international impact.

You will work closely with the centre’s leads (Profs Michael Doyle and Ann Caress), as well as with work-package/theme leads, and communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including community researchers and people with lived experience of mental health problems and/or services. You will contribute to undertaking research projects, developing outputs, securing ethics and governance approvals, maximising impact and mobilising knowledge into policy and practice.

Educated to Master’s level, you will have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, together with experience in relevant research methods (such as qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods, participatory approaches). You will bring an understanding of relevant subjects (such as mental health, health and care, public health, social sciences, lived experience, health economics, ‘big data’ and artificial intelligence) and have some experience of research software/packages.

We offer an excellent employment package, including hybrid working, blending a mix of remote and on‑campus working (dependent on work duties).

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.

The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Employer, Stonewall Gold Award holder and Top 100 Employer, Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.

Informal enquiries are welcome to Prof Michael Doyle M.Doyle2@hud.ac.uk
