We are looking for a Theatre Support Worker to join our Theatre Teams as a fast‑paced, dynamic department experience that provides patient care and teamwork.
This Band 2 position is available at the York site and may progress to a Band 3 post after one year of experience and completion of the HCSW Theatre Department Skills training programme.
The role requires a four‑week Healthcare Support Worker Academy followed by an extensive induction and supervision with two in‑house clinical educators. You will be supported to complete a theatre skill book to provide the best possible care for our patients.
Shift pattern: Monday to Friday 8 am‑6 pm, with occasional 8 am‑8 pm shifts.
Responsibilities
* Support patients to make choices about their care and ensure those choices are respected.
* Collect patients from the ward and escort them to theatre, acting as the third person in the anaesthetic room.
* Inform the registered practitioner of any concerns regarding the patient to ensure timely assessment.
* Dispose of bodily fluids, soiled linen and spillages in accordance with Trust policy and guidelines.
* Support patients undergoing procedures both physically and psychologically during and after the procedure.
* Act as a messenger and porter for supplies, specimens, records and equipment or any other items required for patient care.
* Assist the registered practitioner with patient admission, transfer and discharge.
* Support basic life‑support skills procedures as per Trust policy.
* Assist with restocking supplies and maintaining equipment, reporting any issues to the registered practitioner.
* Adhere to standards and procedures that ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
* Keep areas clean and clutter‑free.
