Job Description:
As our Sustainability Director, you will lead the development and execution of our sustainability strategy, ensuring responsible growth, enhancing nature, and nurturing our people and communities. You will collaborate with internal teams, industry bodies, regulators, and clients to embed sustainability across all operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the development, implementation, and execution of WJ’s sustainability strategy.
2. Integrate sustainability into core business strategy, aligning with financial goals, investor expectations, and market positioning.
3. Set measurable sustainability goals and targets, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory frameworks.
4. Drive continuous improvement and industry best practices, working with standards like ISO 9001, 14001, 14064, 14067, 14040, 50001, PAS 2050, PAS 2080, FORS, CLOCS, and SBTi.
5. Stay ahead of emerging trends, legislation, and innovations to keep WJ a sector leader.
6. Collaborate with product, engineering, and innovation teams to incorporate sustainability into product development and operations.
7. Engage with external stakeholders, government, clients, and sustainability organizations to promote WJ’s environmental and social commitments.
8. Represent WJ in industry forums, influencing policy and leading in sustainable highway solutions.
Qualifications:
1. Proven leadership in sustainability, ESG, or environmental roles within products, engineering, manufacturing, or infrastructure sectors.
2. Experience in managing sustainability programs, compliance, and stakeholder engagement at a senior level.
3. Ability to influence and lead change, fostering a sustainability-first culture.
4. Experience in developing and executing sustainability strategies, preferably within engineering, manufacturing, or infrastructure industries.
5. Deep knowledge of UK sustainability legislation, reporting standards, and industry best practices.
