Job description
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
Play a key role in the effective running of the city's street lighting and traffic sign operations.
Public lighting has become a high profile and relied upon service by the citizens of Leicester. We are a team of specialists responsible for the effective running of the city's street lighting and traffic sign operations and this is a fantastic opportunity to join our site operations team, to use your electrical knowledge and skills to provide the support needed to continue our goal of providing an effective and efficient delivery of the Public Lighting operation.
You'll be a valued member of the operations team which includes both street lighting electricians and general lighting operatives and you'll be expected to provide some guidance to any non-electrically qualified team member. You'll provided with the vehicles, tools and plant needed to ensure you can carry out your role efficiently and safely. You will be required to work towards HERS/HEA accreditation and attend any relevant courses as required.
Based at St Margaret's Depot, you'll be part of a team that works at sites throughout in the city installing, commissioning, and maintaining all aspects of public lighting infrastructure, including a comprehensive annual festive decorations programme
This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours per week from Monday to Friday. On occasions you will be required to work additional hours according to the needs of the service.
What you'll be doing
Your primary role will be to maintain, commission and install street lighting equipment including lighting columns, traffic signs, highways furniture and festive decorations. You'll be diagnosing and repairing electrical faults on all aspects of our new and existing electrical installations, including fault finding and jointing of underground network cables. You'll terminate, joint and test lighting and power cables as well as test and inspect highway electrical installations. You'll be required to complete relevant test certificates and documentation in compliance with current IET wiring regulations. You'll ensure vehicles and plant are maintained in good working order and are clean and tidy. You'll be responsible for making sure that all vehicles and equipment are operated safely and in accordance with local policy and procedures and Health and Safety responsibilities.
What you'll need
You'll have experience of installing and maintaining electrical lighting systems and working on the Highway, including working at height. With previous experience of working within Health and Safety plans that include risk assessments and identifying hazards on site, you'll be qualified to Level 2 Electrical installation. You'll have some experience and knowledge of Highways Lighting, Signing and associated works. As a proven problem solver, with the ability to use your initiative, you'll be able to work collaboratively with the team to ensure Public Lighting and Traffic Sign projects are completed safely and in accordance with contract conditions.
