We are seeking a Network Engineer to support and maintain Warwickshire Police’s network infrastructure (virtual and physical) to meet the needs of the organisation. The role is part of the Strategy and Architectural team within Digital Services and contributes to continuous improvement in the delivery of internal and third‑party services.
Responsibilities
* Support and maintain the force's network infrastructure at all times, including day‑to‑day operations and during planning, design, development and documentation of new technical solutions.
* Undertake the role of network subject matter expert, providing technical support assurance and guidance in the designated area, working unsupervised on infrastructure, network configuration and security tasks, meeting required service levels and complying with Digital Service directorate procedures.
* Ensure the network meets relevant industry, national, legislative and compliance standards and demonstrates consistency of implementation.
* Understand business requirements, collect data, deliver analysis and recommend options.
* Drive continuous improvement and innovation in respect of infrastructure architecture; evaluate emerging technology and new initiatives and actively drive relevant proposals through the technical architect practice.
* Ensure the network aligns with business requirements and digital strategy, identifying risks and providing mitigation options to the delivery team.
* Be responsible for impact analysis and quality assurance of modifications to existing systems to support new solutions.
* Represent Warwickshire Police and the Digital Services Directorate at meetings and groups internally and externally, and develop constructive partnerships with relevant organisations and areas of the forces.
* Build and maintain relationships with the Managed Service Provider and other suppliers, including police forces we collaborate with, with a stake in reporting solutions.
* Undertake other duties commensurate with the role as required.
Knowledge
* Substantial knowledge of Cisco, Avaya telephony, Azure, AWS, zScaler, SolarWinds and Sentinel gained through significant experience in similar sized organisations.
* Strong knowledge of network monitoring and management alongside supplier management experience.
* Strong knowledge of SD-WAN, VLAN, Azure vWAN.
* Strong knowledge of static and dynamic routing.
* Experience applying industry best practices with knowledge of ISO 20000 (Service Management) and ITSM.
* Authoring of Technical Design documents and service artefacts.
Experience
* Demonstrated experience in supporting, building and maintaining physical and virtual infrastructure in a similar large, complex, multi‑faceted organisation.
* Strong focus on ICT technologies and operational service delivery.
* Subject matter expert from inception through to delivery to the end customer.

Special Conditions
