The Role
A primary school in Tower Hamlets is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils in Key Stage 1 (KS1). This is a specialist role where you will work with children who have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with learning and develop positive relationships in school.
The successful SEMH Teaching Assistant will provide both one-to-one and small group support, using patience, consistency, and creativity to encourage progress and build confidence.
What You'll Do
1. Support KS1 pupils with SEMH needs in the classroom and during interventions.
2. Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
3. Encourage positive behaviour and resilience through tailored strategies.
4. Work alongside the class teacher, SENCO, and outside agencies where required.
5. Monitor progress and provide feedback to staff and parents.

6. Experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs in a school or similar setting.
7. A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach.
8. Ability to adapt to the needs of individual learners in KS1.
9. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
