NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

Oral Health Directorate

The post sits within the Oral Health Directorate. The Oral Health Directorate is hosted within the East Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership (HSCP) and comprises a single NHS GGC Board wide organisation structure incorporating:

1. General Dental Services
2. Public Dental Service
3. Secondary Care Dental Services
4. Dental Public Health
5. Oral Health Improvement

The Glasgow Dental Hospital and School

Glasgow Dental Hospital and School is part of the Oral Health Directorate structure and is the main referral centre for specialist dental advice and treatment within the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Health Board area. It also fulfils a similar role for surrounding West of Scotland Health Boards and serves a population of up to 3 million people. The Secondary Care Oral Health Service sits within the Regional Services Directorate of the Acute Service, NHS GGC.

There are approximately 150 dental chairs within the hospital. It is an undergraduate/ post graduate dental teaching school and has strong links with the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian University and other hospitals.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Permanent, Full time

Glasgow Dental Hospital

Shift Pattern - Monday to Friday 0845 - 1715

Key responsibilities:

6. Carry out assigned tasks to support direct patient care under the direction of a registered Dental Nurse, ensuring high-quality care delivery.
Assist the registered Dental Nurse and other clinical team members in providing patient care.
7. Work collaboratively with other disciplines involved in patient treatment to maximise care outcomes.
8. Maintain positive, empathic relationships with patients, carers, and relatives, referring queries or concerns to a registered Dental Nurse as appropriate.
9. Report changes in patients’ physical or psychological needs and maintain accurate, up-to-date records for effective communication.
10. Follow NHS GGC policies and procedures to ensure safe working practices for patients and colleagues.
11. Adhere to departmental procedures for the appropriate use of supplies and equipment to ensure efficient resource use.
12. Contribute to housekeeping and stock control, demonstrating cost awareness to support smooth departmental operations.
13. Participate in a personal development plan to maintain and develop skills through training and education.
14. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
