The Opportunity Are you a data-driven professional with a keen eye for detail and a passion for supporting student success? Can you bridge the gap between complex spreadsheets and meaningful pastoral support? We are seeking a methodical and proactive Attendance Administrator to join a dedicated support team in Barnet. Located in a leafy, high-aspiration North London borough known for its exceptional educational standards, this school views attendance not just as a statistic, but as the foundation of student achievement. We are looking for an individual who can manage the rigour of daily reporting while maintaining the empathy required to work with families and external agencies. Core Responsibilities Data Management: Overseeing the daily "AM and PM" registration process, ensuring all registers are completed accurately and on time using school management systems ( SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom ). First-Day Response: Executing the "first-day calling" procedure, contacting parents and carers to ascertain the reasons for unexplained absences and ensuring all students are accounted for. Reporting & Analysis: Generating weekly, termly, and annual attendance reports for the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Governors, identifying trends and "persistent absence" (PA) concerns. Parental Liaison: Acting as a key point of contact for parents regarding attendance, conducting meetings to discuss barriers to schooling and issuing formal correspondence where necessary. Safeguarding & Welfare: Working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and the Pastoral Team to flag "Children Missing in Education" (CME) and supporting the referral process to the Local Authority’s Education Welfare Officer (EWO). Incentive Programmes: Coordinating whole-school attendance initiatives, such as certificates, house competitions, and rewards assemblies to promote a culture of "100% Attendance." Why This School? Barnet’s Educational Excellence: Work in a borough that consistently ranks among the best in the country for GCSE and A-Level progress, where your role is highly valued as a driver of that success. Central Pastoral Hub: Occupy a pivotal role within the school’s "Pastoral Heart," collaborating daily with Year Leaders, Tutors, and the School Nurse. Professional Working Environment: Benefit from a well-resourced administrative suite, clear operational structures, and a school culture that prioritises staff wellbeing. Professional Growth: Access to specialist training in Advanced Data Analysis, Safeguarding Level 2/3, and pathways toward Attendance Manager or Data Manager roles. Candidate Profile Experience: Proven experience in a data-heavy administrative role is essential; direct experience in a school attendance or admissions office is highly advantageous. Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables) and a high level of comfort with school management information systems (MIS). Communication: The ability to communicate with authority and empathy, particularly when dealing with difficult conversations or sensitive family circumstances. Character: A detail-oriented, resilient, and highly organised individual who understands the critical link between school attendance and safeguarding.
