Job Description:
Workplace Classification: Hybrid - this position does not require full-time onsite presence. Employees are required to be onsite up to 3 times per week at our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.
The Team:
GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT software solutions for motorsports, utilizing cloud infrastructure and software development standards. The team collaborates with GM Motorsports Engineering and Race teams to ensure competitive wins in NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar racing.
The Role:
The Staff Software Engineer provides technical leadership and software delivery, with expertise in scalable cloud systems, solution architecture, and hands-on project contributions. This role focuses on building aerodynamics systems for motorsports, which also inform production vehicle development.
Responsibilities:
* Lead development of GM Motorsports aero-thermal applications, including CFD modeling, visualization, and analysis.
* Design solution architectures and lead team consensus on technical approaches.
* Develop modern, modular application designs that integrate loosely connected systems.
* Identify and address value gaps within the aerodynamics team with innovative solutions.
* Resolve technical blockers and ensure smooth project delivery milestones.
* Manage scrum story delivery, including architecture, interfaces, testing, and deployment.
* Collaborate with team members and support overall project success.
* Maintain reliability and self-management in delivering project components.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
* Expertise in CFD systems, microservices, or data streaming platforms.
* Experience in full stack application development and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
* At least 5 years in microservices development, with 2+ years in web services design.
* Proficiency with containerization tools like Kubernetes and Docker.
* Knowledge of best practices in software development, devops, CI/CD, and agile methodologies.
Desired Skills:
* Masters in a technical discipline (preferred).
* Experience with aerodynamics engineering, AI & Machine Learning, VR frameworks, data streaming, cross-platform development, and UI/UX design.
* Leadership and architecture experience, understanding of stateless models, data serialization, and working in high-pace environments.
