An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professionally registered experienced Psychotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, or Counselling Psychologist to join the Therapeutic community team delivering specialist treatment for adults with complex emotional difficulties. The ideal candidate will have experience in conducting therapeutic groups for individuals with severe and complex emotional needs, and may have worked within or have lived experience of a therapeutic community, as well as using trauma-focused therapy group models.
The Brenchley Unit is an established therapeutic community and an accredited member of the Community of Communities under the Royal College of Psychiatrists. The service was Highly Commended in the National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards 2018. We are actively engaged in peer reviews and are members of The Consortium of Therapeutic Communities (TCTC). Our practice includes MBT, Yoga for trauma, psychodrama, art psychotherapy, and occupational therapy.
Main duties of the job
This role involves advising on referrals, providing supervision and case consultations, and offering assessment and outpatient psychodynamic psychotherapy groups. You will conduct small group psychotherapy within the TC and participate in community meetings. There will be opportunities to develop lecturing and training roles.
You will work within an analytic framework of a democratic TC, upholding relational practice, co-production, and inclusivity. You should be capable of working with transference processes, managing complex dynamics, and handling caseloads involving clients with significant risk. The role requires organizational skills to prioritize workload and maintain quality standards. You may deputize for the clinical lead and support service operations.
