Summary
**Important notice**
In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy
The National Trust’s Climate and Environment team is recognised nationally and internationally for its ground-breaking work, reducing the use of natural resources and carbon in our places and mitigating our climate change impacts. We’re seeking an Assistant Climate and Environment Adviser whose passion for the environment, energy efficiency and reducing carbon will ensure that the Trust continues to conserve and protect special places for future generations.
As a member of the internal specialist delivery team you’ll adopt a hybrid working model. Some days you will need to travel to properties across the North some days you can work from home and your local hub office. You will support the Climate and Environment Advisers and be supported by the wider Climate and Environment community of practice in the North and nationally.
Flexible working arrangements, part time working or possible job share will be considered. Occasional overnight stays and early starts/late finishes may be required to support property visits.
Please include a covering letter with your application stating what key experience and practical skills make you the ideal candidate to take our aspirations forward.
What it's like to work here
The National Trust is changing – we are moving with the times and need to ensure we are here for Future Generations forever. Our new Strategy launched in January 2025 articulates how we need to inspire more people, be more accessible and restore nature to remain relevant to everyone.
You will work as part of the North Restore Nature Specialist Delivery Team which provides property groups with advice and practical delivery support across the full range of conservation, access and growth projects and initiatives. You’ll bring to the team the review of technical data, environmental project support and the ability to work at pace in complex technical situations.
Your contractual place of work will be one of the North National Trust Regional offices, Altrincham, Newcastle, Grasmere or York. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.
What you'll be doing
You’ll support work across several properties in the North Region, working alongside other Specialist Delivery Partners and property teams. In addition to being supported by the wider Climate and Environment community of practice in the North and nationally. You'll join an innovative and experienced team in the North to ensure that we achieve our vision – tackling climate change, reducing carbon and making the most efficient use of natural resources in everything we do.
You’ll do this by providing analytical support for the Climate and Environment team looking at carbon, energy, water and waste to pinpoint where and how we can improve performance. You'll support the administrative duties of our team responding to requests for information including environmental compliance, providing hands-on support to meet the needs of our internal clients and ensuring that the data captured in the Climate & Environmental Management System is accurate and up-to-date.
You’ll need to draw on research, analysis and intelligence from internal and external sources including climate hazard maps, GIS (Geographic Information System) maps and various dashboards to help us and properties to prioritise climate action. You'll use your knowledge to champion best practice across the region, and increasing engagement at all levels of the organisation through effective communication and training.
This is a great development opportunity for the successful applicant; you’ll have the opportunity to work with some of our smaller properties, to coach and advise them on innovative solutions to drive down their resource consumption and help them to understand the importance of the part they play in reducing energy usage and managing resources.
