Overview
An exciting opportunity to join the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. This 1 year, fixed term Senior Clinical Fellow post is suitable for candidates who have recently completed CCT, or equivalent training, in Anaesthetics or Intensive Care, and hold full GMC registration with Licence to Practice. The role supports a Consultant application pathway and is designed for clinicians interested in Neuro-Anaesthesia or Neuro-Critical Care.
Responsibilities
* Contribute at a senior level to the running of a busy specialist ICU, including management of junior colleagues and trainees.
* Participate in a 1:8 full-shift on-call rota covering the Airway tier of the Neuro ICU.
* Take an active role in day-to-day Neuro-ICU operations, including supervising junior staff and engaging with the wider MDT.
* Lead and contribute to teaching, quality improvement projects, and phased leadership development within the Unit, under supervision of duty consultants.
* Participate in twice-daily consultant-led ICU ward rounds, conduct daily reviews of critically ill patients, and contribute to all aspects of daily medical care.
* Contribute to the Neuro-ICU's clinical governance, teaching programmes, and quality improvement activities.
* Collaborate with the tertiary multidisciplinary team and provide leadership in neuro-critical care practice while preparing for future consultant roles.
Qualifications and experience
* Recent CCT in Anaesthetics or Intensive Care, or equivalent level of training.
* Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice.
* Interest in Neuro-Anaesthesia or Neuro-Critical Care and a desire to strengthen an application for a Consultant post.

What we offer
The Neuro-ICU is a specialist tertiary- and quaternary-referral unit, within the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital. It works closely with Oxford Critical Care, the Major Trauma Centre, and the Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Specialist Surgery departments to provide emergency and elective care for patients with intracranial or head and neck diseases. The unit has a strong ethos of learning, equality, and multidisciplinary engagement, with opportunities to contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, and teaching while developing leadership for future consultant roles.
