The Countess of Brecknock Hospice offers day care, day treatments, inpatient care and an expanding hospice at home service.
We are a consultant lead palliative care team offering community and ward based experience, including symptom control, end of life care, blood transfusions, line care treatments. Nurses will be supported by colleagues and given the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills in this specialised area. This dynamic and innovative team sits within Cancer Services at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a growing service with the potential of Trust wide secondment opportunities. Previous experience preferred however full training will be given.
Main duties of the job
The service operates over 7 days and includes inpatient care; community care; day service; and the home care which coordinates care for end of life patients. Your role in this team will be primarily to offer round the clock hospice care to patients needing specialist palliative care or end of life care.
You will help to deliver excellent patient care to the 10* inpatients at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice. This includes, but is not exclusively, end of life care to patients and support for families. The Hospice is a hub for all of the palliative care services delivered by Hampshire Hospitals’, and additional duties might include your support to colleagues in the palliative care team that delivers services in the community, line care and day service.
Delivering high quality, safe, effective and compassionate care to patients is the highest priority for Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. End of Life care delivered by the Trust at the Hospice and in its hospitals is rated as Outstanding by the CQC.
All staff are required to attend meetings at other sites on occasions, and will at times be asked to provide cover for colleagues on the other site. There are also opportunities to shadow and work as part of our palliative services at Winchester and Basingstoke hospitals to broaden your knowledge and skills.
