The successful candidate for this Quantum Consultant job will likely come from a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management background, having gained experience with a contractor, sub-contractor or similar specialist claims and quantum consultancy.
This role would suit ambitious Consultants currently working within quantum disputes, Quantum Senior Consultants as well as Quantity Surveyors who are seeking progression within disputes and can demonstrate significant claims and quantum experience on live projects/contracts.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Assist with the preparation of claims for loss and expense and other contractual entitlements.
2. Assist with the preparation of adjudication documentation.
3. Assist clients, lawyers and counsel in developing its position where required
4. Review and assess contemporaneous project records to establish quantum associated with claims and/or disputes
5. Quantum Forensic analysis of tender, contract, and claims documentation
6. Be able to draft written reports, setting out process, conclusions, and recommendations.
7. Support the drafting of detailed expert witness reports for use in formal dispute resolution proceedings
8. Critically analyse project and major programme performance, identifying root cause of those elements in distress
9. Providing strategic advice at all stages of the construction life cycle
10. Proactively manage cashflow.
11. Actively contribute to business development and supporting colleagues with project deliverables
12. Experience in developing and pursuing claims up or down the supply-chain
13. Undertaking research and development of emerging industry related technologies as well as keeping up with the developments within own technical area of expertise
14. Contribute to client meetings
15. Support and guide Junior staff working with you on specific tasks
16. Supporting the interface with the client and other consultants, at all project stages
17. Acting as an ambassador championing the Contract Services delivered by the consultancy in the industry.
Desired Skills and Experience
18. 5+ years experience within a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management background, preferably with a premium, major building or civil engineering contractor / subcontractor.
19. Experience of having worked on claims matters arising as a result of being a contractor or subcontractor's Senior QS or Project QS
20. Familiarity with claims and formal dispute proceedings.
21. Experience in adjudication from start to finish would be desirable but not essential.
22. Good knowledge of common contracts such as NEC and JCT & FIDIC
23. Knowledge of relevant applications and technologies in the quantity surveying, commercial management industry, for example BCIS, Cost-X, CEMAR
24. Strong report writing skills are essential and candidates who can demonstrate prior report writing evidence will be looked upon very positively.
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
25. Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management or a similar degree in construction
26. Master’s degree in applicable construction specialism, highly preferable a construction law LLM or similar.
27. Ideally MRICS, MInstCES or equivalent qualified or working towards Chartership (not essential).
