Overview
Engineering Specialist Projects role at National Grid. Two opportunities in the Projects team, based at Derby. Reporting to the Team Manager, the Engineering Specialists will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of a combination of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the distribution network and at non-operational sites up to and including 132kV.
Main Responsibilities
* Installation and commissioning of Underground, Overhead, Plant and Protection systems on the 132kV and 33kV network.
* The management and control of project work involving plant, overhead and underground systems including:
o Project Safety (inc. CDM)
o Project Finances
o Project Related Network Risk
o Procurement and Contractor Management
* Undertake operational duties on the distribution network, including the issuing of safety documentation up to 132kV.
* Issue planned shutdown notices, make appointments with customers.
* Exercise leadership. Request assistance when outside capability or authority.
* Manage own short-term work programme to meet changes in circumstances, within constraints.
* Assist with the assessment and authorisation of operational staff.
* Advise other team members on innovations in electricity network management and automation systems.
* Liaise with other specialists within the Company.
* You will be required to undertake the Standby Duties on a rota as part of this appointment.
Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
* The successful candidate should demonstrate practical knowledge of protection and control systems, including commissioning, and familiarity with specifications for plant.
* Requires Level 3 City & Guilds 2339 and may need to undertake HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
* Ideally Senior Authorised Person with experience working in a Distribution Network Operator (DNO), Independent DNO (IDNO) or Independent Connection Provider (ICP).
* Experience in a high hazard industry with health and safety emphasis and conversant with construction management regulations (CDM 2015).
* Experience in formally managing and reporting on projects and project-related finances.
* Self-motivated, adaptable, demonstrate a high level of autonomy and able to work effectively under pressure.
* Role requires mobility across the network services area and standby duties in accordance with a pre-determined rota.
* Evidence of qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
