Senior Engineer - Rail Reactive Maintenance
Location: London-based (covering Kent, Sussex, and Wessex regions)
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 depending on experience
An opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced Senior Engineer to join a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy working on long-term rail reactive maintenance frameworks. This London-based role will involve regional coverage across Kent, Sussex, and Wessex, supporting vital infrastructure projects for major rail clients.
You will be responsible for leading inspections, preparing technical reports, and developing remedial designs for a range of civil and structural infrastructure assets. The key responsibilities for this Senior Engineer role are:
1. Undertake and manage hidden critical element inspections, reactive maintenance inspections, condition and/or structural surveys, and dilapidation surveys.
2. Carry out inspections of civil and structural assets including bridges, stations, canopies, infrastructure buildings, maritime structures, and highways assets.
3. Prepare, review and approve inspection reports and recommendations.
4. Produce or review repair and strengthening designs for defective or deteriorated structures.
5. Develop and sign off repair and strengthening designs for defective structural elements, inc. producing structural calculations, assurance forms, and supporting technical documentation, Designer's Risk Assessments.
6. Produce or oversee the approval of technical drawings and models using AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or Revit.
7. Prepare project documentation including specifications, health and safety documentation, assurance forms, and issue registers.
8. Managing project programming, cost tracking, and delivery to meet agreed time, budget, and quality expectations.
9. Act as technical mentor and reviewer for junior and mid-level engineers
The key requirements for this Senior Engineer role are:
10. Degree in either Civil or Structural Engineering.
11. Working towards Chartership status is highly desirable but not essential.
12. At least 5 years experience within civil or structural engineering
13. Excellent technical reporting and communication skills
14. Familiar with relevant UK design standards, health & safety, and risk assessment practices
15. Proficient in design and modelling software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit)
16. Strong organisational and project management skills
17. Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
