John Turner Consulting (JTC), an environmental and engineering consulting firm serving New England, is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to join our Portsmouth, NH office.
This is a strategic hire for a senior-level environmental professional ready to lead, mentor, and grow a team, with flexibility to work in a hybrid schedule.
Your Role
In this leadership role, you will oversee site investigation and remediation projects, supervise junior technical staff, and contribute to business development. You will bring a strong command of regulatory compliance at local, state, and federal levels, and have the potential to generate up to $1 million in annual revenue through project leadership and client management.
Responsibilities
· Lead environmental site assessments, investigation, and remediation projects throughout New England
· Prepare and review technical documents, including sampling plans, remedial action plans, and regulatory reports
· Manage and mentor junior staff, promoting professional development and safety
· Interface with regulatory agencies such as NHDES, MassDEP, MEDEP, and EPA
· Support and drive business development, including proposal writing and client outreach
· Maintain responsibility for project scope, budget, and schedule
· Contribute to strategic planning and help grow JTC’s environmental practice
Qualifications
· 15+ years in environmental consulting with increasing technical and leadership responsibilities
· New Hampshire Professional Geologist (PG) required; multi-state licensure is a plus
· Demonstrated ability to maintain and grow a portfolio of work worth $1M+ annually
· Strong knowledge of environmental programs (RCRA, CERCLA, TSCA)
· Hands-on experience with New England environmental regulations and permitting
· Successful collaboration with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
· Experience managing and mentoring junior staff
· Strong organizational and communication skills
· Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field required; Master’s degree
