About this opportunity
Westmorland and Furness Council have identified climate change and biodiversity as key priorities, seeking to reach net zero by 2037 and support nature recovery efforts across the area. We are seeking a highly organised, motivated and dedicated Project Support Officer with specialist knowledge on climate change and nature recovery to assist with the delivery of the Council’s Climate Change Action Plan and Nature Action Plan, linking to the Cumbria Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
In the drive to address climate change and biodiversity loss, the Climate and Nature Team are undertaking a variety of projects with examples including: planting one tree for every resident; delivering a Carbon Literacy training programme; and funding species recovery work with our partners across Westmorland and Furness.
Who we are looking for…
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
* Develop and implement a wide range of internal and external climate and nature projects and programmes.
* Work with colleagues and key partners to develop and implement climate change and nature recovery.
* Allocate, monitor and manage activities to ensure effective and timely project delivery.
* Maintain an oversight of all risks associated with delivery of projects and programmes.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, elected members, stakeholders, and contractors.
* Provide support, guidance, and task management to other staff as required.
* Ensure that national best practice and statutory/regulatory requirements are implemented.
* Use technical skills to prepare and monitor projects and programmes.
* Identify and apply for additional funding opportunities.
Prepare briefing notes, discussion documents, consultation, and formal reports.
