Led by Trust & Divisional Lead ACPs NUH has well-established teams of ACPs in 18 specialties. A robust governance structure & career framework supports individual & team development. The post holder will have Trust-wide responsibility to promote clinical excellence in patient care by providing clinical advice & support to their multi-professional colleagues. The role will include developing audit & research projects, & participating in up-dating & implementing departmental policies, protocols/guidelines, in line with national guidance & contemporary evidence. The trainee ACP will undertake the role in accordance with Trust & Departmental guidelines but have freedom to act within broad policies & protocols, in accordance with professional responsibilities & boundaries. The post holder will be based at Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust. Although the post holder's specialty may be based at one campus the training pathway may involve placements or visits at either the City Campus or the Queens Medical Centre. The trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACP) will develop specialist knowledge and skills to provide healthcare autonomously to patients in their specialty through an established ACP training pathway. The post holder will be a 1st level registered nurse or registered allied health professional with the ability to undertake Non-Medical Prescribing. They will have experience in working within the specialty or an equivalent setting. They will have excellent communication skills, and be able to liaise with patients and their families in planning their care. They will be expected to provide evidence of their ongoing continuing professional development. Whilst in training the tACP will undertake the MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice as an apprentice; included in the curriculum are non-medical prescribing and work-based learning modules. As well as the academic pathway the tACP will follow the three year consultant-supported ACP training program mapped against established national and regional competencies. The tACP will gain the skills under direct consultant supervision to undertake clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients with undiagnosed and undifferentiated conditions. In addition to this the tACP will also be trained in the referral of patients to relevant specialities for any necessary inpatient or outpatient investigations as well as facilitating safe patient discharge. The tACP will develop advanced skills in clinical decision making, critical thinking, and clinical management skills based upon evidence based practice. Once qualified and embedded within the specialty the successful candidate will have the ability to develop an area of sub specialist interest. The candidate will work alongside a Consultant who will provide regular supervision and we have ACPs working in the following outpatient areas; Pulmonary Embolism, Lung Cancer, Bronchiectasis with future plans to assist with sleep and ventilation services. Person specification Training & Qualifications Essential criteria Current registration with professional body (e.g. NMC, HCPC) with the ability to undertake Non-Medical Prescribing UK degree at minimum 2:2, or degree with statement of comparability at level 6 or 7 (UK ENIC) if undertaken at a non-UK HEI. GCSE grade A* - C in Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English. Desirable criteria Post-registration qualification or training relevant to speciality. Working towards MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Registered Independent Non-Medical prescriber. Mentor/assessor and/or teaching qualification. ALS Provider/Instructor. Working in New Ways Packages relevant to the specialty. Experience Essential criteria Minimum 4 years post-registration Minimum 2 years clinical work in a relevant setting. Minimum 1 year working at AfC Band 6 or above. Evidence of continued professional development. Evidence of teaching, supervision and assessment skills. Desirable criteria Management and leadership experience Evidence of involvement in policy and practice change Clinical work in an autonomous role Communication and relationship skills Essential criteria Ability to work within a multi-professional team, often presenting and receiving complex information Assertiveness skills and the ability to deal with interpersonal conflict Ability to adapt communication to a wide variety of patient abilities/needs and deal with potentially difficult or distressing situations effectively. Communication skills that facilitate building honest and trusting partnerships with patients, families and carers Desirable criteria Evidence of conflict management Accepts constructive feedback from a variety of sources Analytical and Judgement skills Essential criteria Ability to respond to, prioritise and analyse health conditions and ensure effective interventions are actioned in a timely manner Deal effectively with clinical issues within defined procedures and guidelines Desirable criteria Participation in research or audit projects Able to work with undifferentiated and undiagnosed healthcare problems Planning and organisation skills Essential criteria Demonstrates adaptability to departmental and patient need Self-motivated with evidence of efficient time and deadline management Ability to schedule academic workload and work commitments Able to identify learning opportunities and able to organise own learning and development Ability to effectively prioritise competing demands. Physical skills Essential criteria Able to undertake required clinical duties/procedures Ability to manoeuvre patients and perform clinical examinations as required Knowledge and use of IT systems including excel. Desirable criteria Completion of a clinical skills module.
