Senior Structural Engineer – Bespoke Structures & Dynamic Systems
Salary: £55,000-£65,000 + comprehensive benefits package
An established engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join its specialist team delivering complex, one‑off projects across the live entertainment, experiential, and automated systems sectors. This position is ideal for a highly capable engineer who thrives on technical ownership — taking structural analysis and design from initial concept through to final delivery. You will work within a multidisciplinary environment, applying strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to develop safe, efficient and innovative solutions for dynamic, unconventional, and bespoke structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Structural analysis & design — Lead engineering analysis and design across bespoke structures, machinery and rigging systems.
- Advanced calculations — Perform detailed calculations using hand methods, engineering judgement and specialist analysis software.
- Concept‑to‑delivery engineering — Translate conceptual ideas into robust, compliant engineering solutions.
- Cross‑functional collaboration — Work closely with design studios, project managers and manufacturing teams.
- Technical communication — Present engineering results, risks and recommendations clearly and effectively.
- Standards compliance — Ensure designs meet relevant UK and international codes and standards.
- Mentoring — Support junior engineers and contribute to team development.
- External engagement — Liaise with external engineering partners and consultants.
- Continuous improvement — Contribute to the development of engineering tools, processes and internal standards.
- Design reviews — Participate in technical discussions, design reviews and project meetings.
Requirements
- Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Significant experience in structural analysis and design, ideally involving complex or bespoke structures.
- Strong understanding of stress, deflection, stability and dynamic behaviour.
- Proficiency with structural analysis tools such as RISA‑3D, SAP2000, Robot or similar.
- Knowledge of Eurocodes, BS standards or equivalent international codes.
- Experience designing with steel and aluminium; composites experience beneficial.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership preferred.
- Experience in entertainment engineering, temporary works, stage machinery or kinetic structures is advantageous.
- Exposure to dynamic load cases and design‑for‑manufacture environments.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers.
