Job Responsibilities
1. Training and Independence: SACT nurses should be trained to administer treatments independently. Although a Trust nurse will be assigned to the bay, workers will manage their own lists.
2. Leadership: Provide effective clinical and managerial leadership across the oncology and haematology areas, including inpatients, day cases, and outpatients. Lead in the absence of the Clinical Nurse Manager (CNM), empowering staff to deliver patient-centered, evidence-based care within a defined budget.
3. Patient-Centered Care: Establish systems for a multi-disciplinary approach to care delivery. Demonstrate good interpersonal, teaching, and practical skills within the specialty, reflecting the oncology and haematology philosophy of care. Increase patient and family involvement using the Trust’s patient and public involvement strategy.
4. Knowledge and Support: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of treatment side effects and care. Provide advice and support to patients and carers regarding health promotion, neutropenic sepsis, hair loss, and other treatment-related side effects.
5. Advanced Skills: Practice advanced specialist skills, including administering cytotoxic and immunotherapies, blood products, and caring for central venous and peripheral access devices. Perform venipuncture and cannulation.
6. Patient Assessment: Assess patients prior to treatment to identify any necessary alterations to planned care and refer as appropriate.
7. Supportive and Palliative Care: Assess the supportive, palliative, and psychological needs of patients and their carers. Refer to appropriate professionals as necessary.
