Role: SEND Transition Coordinator
Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden and Central Bedfordshire College – Kingsway Dunstable Campus
Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £30,915 and £41,085 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays,People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:
We are currently seeking a SEND Transition Coordinator to join our Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support department at The Bedford College Group.
As a Transition Coordinator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
1. Role Purpose – Assess and plan high-quality support for students with SEND, including those with EHCPs, ensuring smooth transitions into college and alignment with individual aspirations.
2. Assessment & Planning – Conduct assessments for High Needs and SEND students, determine appropriate provision, complete professional reports for funding panels, and ensure timely documentation.
3. Collaboration & Transition – Liaise with schools, Local Authorities, and curriculum teams to gather information, plan transitions, and support students before and during enrolment.
4. Training & Engagement – Deliver CPD to curriculum staff on meeting specific needs, build strong relationships with students and parents/carers, and participate in marketing events and college activities.
5. Statutory Duties – Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, inclusion, and health & safety; engage in ongoing training and development to maintain compliance and professional standards.
About you:
6. Qualifications – A Levels or equivalent; GCSE English and Maths (A–C); graduate or vocational training at Level 5 in Education, Health, or Social Sciences.
7. Knowledge & Experience – Strong understanding of SEND Code of Practice (2014), safeguarding, equality and diversity; experience supporting young people with SEND/EHCP in FE settings and leading meetings with stakeholders.
8. Technical Skills – Proficient in Microsoft Office and IT systems; ability to produce professional reports; excellent administrative and record-keeping skills; understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
9. Core Competencies – Effective communication (verbal, written, telephone), strong organisational and time-management skills, ability to prioritise workload, work under pressure, innovate, and adapt to change.
10. Values & Attributes – Commitment to safeguarding and professional boundaries; flexible approach, willingness to travel across sites, continuous professional development, and access to own transport.
