Murphy is recruiting for a Design Engineer to work with Murphy Applied Engineering in Cannock.

Under Murphy Applied Engineering, our in-house teams include civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical, and process engineers. They design both permanent and temporary works for projects nationwide and serve as trusted advisors for Murphy colleagues and external clients.
A Day in the Life of a Murphy Design Engineer
1. Design protection and control systems for electrical substations up to 400kV, according to project specifications.
2. Prepare single line and key line diagrams for substations.
3. Develop electrical designs for equipment like circuit breakers, disconnectors, and earth switches, aligned with OEM drawings.
4. Review OEM protection and control drawings for system integration and interface details.
5. Create electrical interlocking drawings as per client specifications.
6. Produce wiring, termination diagrams, cable schedules, and core sheets for project delivery.
7. Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including responding to site queries and modifying designs as needed.
8. Prepare technical specifications for P & C equipment for supplier quotations.
9. Collaborate with other engineering sections for multi-disciplinary project success.
10. Promote health, safety, and environmental best practices in coordination with the SHQE department.
11. Supervise assistant engineers, junior engineers, or CAD operators when required.
Are You Interested? Does This Sound Like You?
* 3-4 years of P & C design experience.
* Knowledge of protection principles, including unit/non-unit and backup protection.
* Familiarity with protection and control schemes for AIS and GIS substations.
* Understanding of National Grid technical specifications for substations.
* Ability to read electrical drawings from various manufacturers.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD for 2D drawings.
