Thameside Fire Protection is seeking an experienced and reliable Fire Alarm Engineer to join the team in a full-time role. The position is predominantly maintenance-based, operating remotely from Essex and covering client sites across the South East.
The engineer will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance (PPM), routine servicing, testing, and fault-finding of fire alarm and life safety systems. A key aspect of the role will be accurately recording and documenting findings during PPM visits, including compliance status and any required remedial works. These reports will directly support follow-on repairs and ensure systems remain fully compliant with current fire safety legislation and industry standards.
While installation work may occasionally be required, the primary focus will be on maintaining and improving existing systems. The role also involves close collaboration with clients and internal teams, including regular work alongside Thameside Fire Protection’s sprinkler division, making any prior experience with sprinkler systems advantageous. The engineer will play a key role in upholding the company’s high standards of service, safety, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine servicing of fire alarm systems
* Fault diagnosis and rectification across fire detection and life safety systems
* Completion of remedial works identified following PPM inspections
* Clear and accurate documentation of PPM findings, compliance status, and recommended remedial actions
* Ensuring all works meet relevant fire safety standards and regulations
* Providing technical advice and support to clients
* Working collaboratively with internal teams, including the sprinkler division
* Covering sites across the South East from an Essex base
Experience with the following systems would be beneficial:

* Level 3 qualification in Emergency Lighting
* Gas suppression training
Additional Requirements
* Proven experience in fire alarm maintenance and fire protection engineering
* Strong understanding of life safety, fire safety, and safety engineering principles
* Solid knowledge of relevant standards and legislation
* Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and technical ability
* High attention to detail with the ability to produce clear, compliant PPM reports
* Relevant engineering or related qualifications
* Experience in a similar maintenance-focused role within the fire protection sector
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
