Job Description

Salary: 41,006.06 – 44,143.53 (all offers will be made at 41,006.06)

Closing date: Midnight 15 April 2025

Location: Hybrid (Office is based in central Edinburgh)

Pattern: Full time role is 35 hours per week. We accept flexible working requests from day 1 and are happy to discuss flexible working patterns, these must suit both us as an organisation and yourself. This role requires the post holder to work a Monday.

We’re looking for a Project Coordinator to join the team at the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, which helps resolve issues raised by the public about work carried out by Scottish lawyers.

We help hundreds of people a year, and our team makes decisions that make a difference to people’s lives. In some cases, we award compensation and explain why the level of service fell short. In others, our independent review of the situation shows the lawyer did all they could, giving the client and lawyer confidence the matter is at an end.

The Scottish Legal Complaints Commission is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of reassignment or maternity.

We’re a small team of around 60 staff, which makes for a close, friendly team to work in. We deliver serious work, but we also have a great deal of fun as a team working together. It also means there are great opportunities to get involved in different aspects of our work, from driving improvements in our customer service to running ‘sprints’ to test new ways of working. We are always improving and innovating, and you’ll be involved in designing and testing new approaches and move between teams and different types of work to help build knowledge and ensure we can deliver our work.

You’ll provide support to the Senior Management Team (SMT) to manage the project coordination activity to assist in the implementation of new legislation governing the functions of the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission. This legislation will help us modernise some aspects of our functions and also bring new roles and responsibilities to the organisation.

You’ll prepare and manage individual project plans and help ensure an overview of all the implementation work is maintained and monitored. You’ll work directly with the senior leadership team on projects, and support information gathering, consultation, and policy development work.

You’ll also report on project progress to both SMT and SLCC Board.

You’ll be involved in project meetings, from scheduling to preparing agendas, minutes, and action logs.

You’ll be passionate about customer service and supporting the team to deliver a high level of customer service to both members of the public and members of the profession.

You will thrive on change and improvement: the culture of the SLCC is one of continual improvement, resulting in a pattern of change and progress—not change for change’s sake—but measured collaborative improvement.

You’ll have experience in business change or transformation and complex project management, but we don’t have a fixed idea of where you will have gained that experience. People from very different backgrounds have excelled in these roles, and we want you to have the chance to explain to us how you might help us deliver our role.

You can work from any UK location for most of the time; all we require is that you attend the office, which is based in Edinburgh, a minimum of one third of your working days a quarter, and there will be some specific events that you need to attend in person. You will also need to co-ordinate your diary with the senior staff to have some in-person time with project leads. Please note induction will include more office days in the beginning to help you settle into SLCC, learn about the role, and provide the most support.

You will also have 42 days paid holiday, including public holidays (pro-rata for less than 35 hours a week). We also offer a Group Self Invested Personal Pension, company sick pay scheme, life assurance, cycle to work scheme, travel loan scheme, volunteer days, and a confidential employee assistance programme offering free advice and support across a range of work and personal issues.

We also pride ourselves on being an enjoyable place to work, with a supportive environment, opportunities for self-development, staff charity events, and the opportunity to socialise. We have a staff-led Wellbeing Group. In our last staff survey, 85% of colleagues said they would recommend the SLCC to friends as a place to work, and 97% said we were a fair place to work.

To apply for this role, please submit your CV and a cover letter (one page maximum) that details your interest in the role, your project management experience, tools or approaches you have used to track and report on projects, and any other skills you have that may be relevant to this role by 5pm on 15 April 2025. Interviews for this post will take place in person and will be held on 12 and 13 May; if you have a date, please let us know when you submit your CV and cover letter.

Please note if your application is unsuccessful at the assessment sifting stage, the SLCC cannot provide feedback on individual applications.
