Job Title: Financial Controller
Location: Bristol (100% Office-Based)
Contract: Interim initially (6 Months)
Salary: £50,000- £60,000
Overview
The Hays Bristol finance team are incredibly excited to bring this newly created finance role to market, and we are looking for a commercially minded, detail-driven Financial Controller to lead the finance function for a fast-growing start-up in Bristol. This newly created role offers the opportunity to build financial systems and processes from the ground up, while partnering directly with the CEO and senior leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
1. Own daily finance operations and deliver accurate month-end reporting
2. Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
3. Strengthen financial controls and improve process efficiency
4. Provide strategic insights to support pricing, margin, and growth decisions
5. Collaborate with external accountants and internal stakeholders
6. Deliver C-suite-level reporting and support business scalability
What We're Looking For
7. ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified
8. Experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role (ideally retail/SME)
9. Strong technical accounting and systems setup experience
10. Commercial acumen with the ability to translate data into strategy
11. Hands-on, proactive, and confident communicator
12. Experience with Xero preferred
Desirable
13. Knowledge of e-commerce, retail, and inventory-based finance
14. Experience supporting business scaling or international growth
