About the Role
Passionate about contributing to DMC’s service development across our Primary Care Team and more widely across the organisation, enabling you to be involved in the decisions that affect our care delivery.
This role will be split across our two GP practices which are within walking distance of each other: Chadwick Road Surgery (SE15) and Crystal Palace Road Surgery (SE22). The role can be either full‑time (37.5 hours per week) or part‑time (minimum of 20 hours per week split across 5 days).
Key Responsibilities
* Respond to patient queries and liaise with the wider primary care team.
* Manage appointment requests and signpost patients to our range of services.
* Maintain patient records and confidentiality.
* Utilise information systems to support efficient workflow processes.
* Email, scan and code clinical correspondence.
* Process prescription requests in a timely manner.
* Support patient health promotion recall campaigns.
* Encourage uptake of digital tools to support patient self‑care.
* Participate in all mandatory training, annual appraisal and continuous education.
* Maintain security measures and health and safety of staff, patients and visitors.
* Ensure confidentiality at all times; release confidential information only with appropriate permission.
* Comply with practice policies and procedures.
* Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by clinicians, the Practice Manager or Patient Services Manager.
Reception Duties
* Greet all patients, visitors and telephone callers professionally and politely.
* Answer incoming calls from patients and healthcare professionals, acting as appropriate.
* Handle administrative queries and act as liaison with clinicians.
* Book, cancel and rearrange appointments via the clinical system.
* Support and assist clinicians as required.
* Arrange interpreters when necessary.
* Ensure patient information is up to date.
* Manage requests and completed medical reports, including receipt of fees.
* Prepare facilities and keep the workspace and waiting area tidy.
Clerical Duties
* Handle prescriptions accurately and efficiently following protocol.
* Deal with GP Links, including amendments and deductions of patient records.
* Monitor incoming electronic test results for prompt review by clinicians.
* Enter new and temporary registrations and relevant patient information (e.g., smoking status, BP, ethnicity, medication).
* Scan patient information into the computerised record.
* Deal with referrals to primary and secondary care.
* Action tasks set by clinicians via clinical systems and email.
* Handle documents via clinical systems and practice protocols.
Data Duties
* Review medical records of new patients, inputting and summarising medical history.
* Register patients.
* Read coding medical data into the clinical system and computerised record.
* Set up and run clinical searches.
* Interrogate data for audit purposes.
* Maintain the appointment system.
* Provide and maintain information required for public health targets.
Qualifications & Skills
* Reception or customer care experience is essential.
* Excellent communication skills, both spoken and written.
* PC skills, including basic Word, Excel and e‑mail.
* Ability to work within processes and procedures.
* Teamwork and collaborative attitude.
* Willingness to learn and progress with a can‑do attitude.
* Previous NHS experience welcome but not essential.
* Ability to communicate with a wide range of people in a kind, professional and caring way.
* Desirable: previous experience using EMIS Web.
