Role And Responsibilities
- Support the team in new product development driven by company and market requirements; provide mechanical engineering support for current products to enhance productivity, reliability, and continuity of performance, ranging from small component designs to complex turnkey solutions.
- From a top level brief, and working in collaboration with electrical, controls and software engineers, design and implement cost‑effective equipment and solutions for engineering problems and help improve safety, reliability and throughput.
- Develop project specifications with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines.
- Produce details of specifications and outline designs.
- Design robust solutions within a 3D environment, ensuring best‑practice modelling to minimise waste and eliminate conflicting information between models and drawings.
- Discuss and solve complex problems with customers, internal departments, subcontractors and suppliers, considering the implications of cost, safety and time constraints.
- Create documentation for the release of products to production, including BoM, spares list, build instructions and assembly drawings.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Qualified to degree level in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Science, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years experience in a product development environment, specifically design for manufacture, assembly and service, ensuring design concepts can be consistently manufactured to enable repeatability of function and operation.
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor for part drawing and assembly creation. Other CAD packages such as Creo or SolidWorks are considered.
- Experience with BoM creation and control within a CAD package.
- Experience with Vault or other PLM software.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate both mechanical and electrical drawings.
