With forestry investment, carbon markets and woodland creation continuing to accelerate across Scotland, my client is now seeking a Forestry Director / Head of Forestry (Scotland) to lead and expand their Scottish forestry offering. This is a high-profile leadership role with significant autonomy, the opportunity to shape long-term strategy, and the platform to grow a team within one of the most respected names in the sector. This appointment would suit a senior forestry professional with deep technical credibility, strong commercial judgement and a proven ability to develop client relationships and recurring fee income. The Role This is a senior leadership role responsible for the delivery and growth of forestry and woodland services across Scotland. The successful candidate will oversee a broad portfolio of client assets and provide strategic advice across woodland creation, forest management, timber markets, valuations and investment. The role will involve a blend of client-facing advisory work, team leadership, business development, and oversight of major forestry asset management programmes. Key Responsibilities Leading forestry asset management activity across Scotland, acting as the principal contact for key clients Advising on commercial forestry and mixed woodland management, including restocking, thinning and harvesting strategy Overseeing delivery of woodland creation and afforestation schemes, from initial planning through to implementation Providing strategic input on grant funding, compliance and long-term management planning Contractor management and oversight, including planting, establishment works, maintenance programmes and harvesting contracts Supporting forestry valuation activity and assisting with investment appraisal and portfolio reporting Advising clients on timber marketing strategies and sale execution Producing and presenting annual budgets, cashflows, management plans and performance reporting Identifying woodland investment opportunities and advising on acquisitions and disposals Developing new instructions and expanding recurring management income through strong client service and trusted advice Building relationships with landowners, agents, professional introducers and stakeholders across Scotland Qualifications / Experience Required Formal forestry qualification (degree level preferred) Ideally a member of (or working towards membership of) the Institute of Chartered Foresters (ICF) Minimum 5 years' forestry / land management experience (more likely 8-15 for the right Director-level hire) Strong IT capability (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; GIS/forest management software beneficial) Package Salary circa £80,000 (flexible depending on experience) Car allowance Annual bonus Hybrid and remote working Strong pension and benefits package Support for professional development and memberships High-trust senior role with long-term progression potential
