Engineering Manager
United Plant Services is an engineering and asset management business, renowned for providing market-leading engineering support and fleet management for Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) within the quarry and waste industry. We are part of The Briggs Equipment Group, a leading provider of asset management and maintenance solutions across the UK and Ireland.

Location: North Wales & Midlands
Responsibilities
* Own and drive a safe and secure working environment, working closely with the SHEQ Lead to deliver all safety-related KPIs.
* Drive engineer productivity through maximising hours sold and challenging non-productive activities closely with the Regional Service Controller.
* Ensure engineering vacancies are at less than 10% of budgeted headcount & drive recruitment.
* Be a felt presence in your team, targeting 80% of your time on face‑to‑face interactions with engineers & 20% with customers, retaining & gaining new business.
* Ensure all field engineers have regular face‑to‑face 1‑on‑1s with clear daily working objectives to help deliver new business KPIs and support engineer wellbeing.
* Embed the business values in the engineering team, positioning United Plant as a supplier and employer of choice in its chosen marketplace.
* Maintain compliance in all areas, including engineering work, health & safety, competence, tooling, and audits.
* Manage adherence to current contract KPIs through delivering a ‘right first time’ performance via high‑quality repairs.
* Adopt a continuous improvement methodology and support projects to improve business performance.
* Identify skill‑gap analysis within the engineering team and develop personnel as necessary to retain & recruit the best fit.
* Assist with retention of the regional & national customer base through regular customer communication and keep internal stakeholders aware of any relevant developments.
* Support regional parts and supplier solutions that allow optimum levels of right‑first‑time delivery.
* Actively support in pursuing and harvesting new customer opportunities.
Qualifications
* Evidence of, and commitment to continual professional and personal development – educated in a business‑related area.
* Significant experience of a safety ethos across all operational areas.
* Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering services‑based business plus the implementation of strategic and tactical growth plans.
* Evidence of leadership and management skills.
* Experience of persuasion and the ability to challenge and communicate at all levels.
* Substantial customer orientation skills with the ability to establish and maintain strong partnerships, gain trust and respect, and translate commercial requirements into practical application within finance practices.
* Communication, presentation, and IT skills.
