Job summary
To assist in the provision of safe effective care for patients attending outpatient ophthalmology and other clinics within the department.
To assist with development and maintenance of safe and effective standards of care using research and evidence-based practice.
Typically working a 7.5 hour shift between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday, with the opportunity to work occasional Saturdays at an enhanced rate.
Duties and responsibilities
Ophthalmic:
Undertake and record relevant patient investigations (once assessed as competent). These may include -
* Biometry
* Auto refraction
* OCT
* Visual Fields
* Ophthalmic Pre-assessment
Other:
Undertake and / or record the following (once assessed as competent) -
* Height, weight and BMI calculation
* Urinalysis
* Blood pressure, temperature and pulse
* Venepuncture
* Blood glucose monitoring
* ECG
* Admission procedures
* Endoscopy decontamination
General:
* Work effectively in a team in liaison with senior staff
* Carry out clinical duties in accordance with unit policy and procedures
* Maintain and record accurate and appropriate clinical records of patient treatment and outcomes and take appropriate action where required
* Work alongside the clinician in the provision of patient care and act as chaperone
* Ensure each working environment and all equipment is clean, in safe working order and adequately stocked with supplies
* Report any deficiencies in stock or equipment and order supplies as required
* Ensure environment is suitable and safe for patients and visitors
* Observe for possible complications of treatment and take appropriate action where required
* Be responsible for your continuing personal development and participate in the development of other members on the team
* Identify department nursing problems or needs and liaise with other members of staff
* Assist in the orientation of new and temporary staff
